I use AR-USER V3.0241 interface to VE7CC and AE5E as a dual connect. It assigns different client identifiers (W4DXX-1, W4DXX-2, etc) to each connection so the call doesn’t show up as identical to two different nodes. DxBase then connects to it using the local port 127.0.0.1. The "Keep Alive" in Dxbase is set at default of 15 mins. I almost never lose connection unless something happens on the nodes end or the WAN internet connection itself.
One other important thing, make sure in Device Manager that your Network Adapter's Power Management is NOT set to go to sleep to save power. I think most Windows installations actually turn this ON, so you have to turn it off. This depends on your power management scheme that is selected but make sure you turn it OFF, and, if you change schemes, like on a laptop, check it to make sure it is OFF in each scheme you use DxBase with. Just a FYI.... The Keep Alive timer is set for 15 min. I've shortened that to 10 min, but I'm not convinced that's the problem I'm seeing. When this happens, I simply see lines of "Keep Alive Sent" (or something like that). If I check the connection with a SH/DX, nothing happens, so I know the connection is no longer active. This has happened from time to time in the past, but it's getting more frequent and annoying. What else might I set on my end to keep the connection from being dropped or simply becoming what amounts to dormant? I've been using the W4NJA node, so I suppose it's also possible the problem is on that end, someplace. MX & HNY, Kim N5OP -- Kim Elmore, Ph.D. (Adj. Assoc.
