I have left my system running ever since I changed the keep-alive timer
to 3 min. The connection has remained up all this time! I haven't
fiddled with the keep-alive timer to see what the maximum interval is:
now that it doesn't disconnect, I'm leaving it this way!

My suspicion is that possibly some cluster types or firewalls at the
cluster are trapping the keep alive message. DXB is just sending a
carriage return Line feed when the timer expires. In Spot (my Mac
cluster client) I send sh/time so it actually has a real command to
process. I have made this change to the version currently under
development and will see if it makes any difference.

An FYI for everyone: Larry Strasser suggested I set the "Keep Alive"
timer to 3 min instead of the default 15 min. During a period of
about 5 h using the 15 min interval, I had three disconnects. Around
4 PM I set the keep alive timer to 3 min and let everything run
overnight (something I never do). DXBase has remained connected to
the the Internet Cluster I've been using (W4NJA) overnight and is
still active.

Kim,
This has been a "bug" in DXBase for years; the one sure fix is to
download VE7CC www.bcdxc.org/ve7cc/Ver3/V3Help.htm
<http://www.bcdxc.org/ve7cc/Ver3/V3Help.htm> Get that up and
running and then connect DXBase to it.
Once you have it up and running, in the Config tab, go to
Ports/logging program. Set the node to Telnet. In the top middle,
check "Enable Telnet". In "data sent to logging program, I have all
checked
but two of them (DX Tab format for live spots and DX Orginators
QTH. Also have the Dat sent to cluster checked to Ignore BYE from
loging program. Make sure you fill in user information (just leave
Usual
DX Cluster blank (you are using VE7CC-1)..
IN DXBase in the Internet window, set IP Host to
127.0.0.1:7300#localhost CC User That should be in the list of
hosts, just scowl down to it. In the interface block in the same
window, I have
Connect Interface at program startup checkied, and keep alive timer
checked and set to 15 mins. Other checks are up to you.
Never had a disconnect since I started using it.
Good luck,

I'm finding that after a while my Internet Packet windows is losing it's
connection and I have to restart it. The Keep Alive timer is set for 15
min. I've shortened that to 10 min, but I'm not convinced that's the
problem I'm seeing. When this happens, I simply see lines of "Keep Alive
Sent" (or something like that). If I check the connection with a SH/DX,
nothing happens, so I know the connection is no longer active. This has
happened from time to time in the past, but it's getting more frequent
and annoying. What else might I set on my end to keep the connection
from being dropped or simply becoming what amounts to dormant? I've been
using the W4NJA node, so I suppose it's also possible the problem is on
that end, someplace.
