8an's what's known as an optimist, to say the least. My thoughts...

1) Finish this one. NS4+ problems still exist on Macintosh (most recent
release) and NS6 still has issues on both PC and Mac. IE5 on Macintosh
would be a large victory and IE6 public looms on the horizon.

2) DynAPI4 will be from the floor up, new. I would "like" to think that
Pascal's spearheading this "in his own way" and we can bootstrap onto his
work soon. I may be wrong.

3) Both API's will need to be carried for at least 18 months. Some clients
will demand deeper reverse compatibility.

4) NS6 did more to "prolong" abandoning the level 4 browsers then help
people move up to DOM compliance. The tendency was a) either retreat to
NS4, or b) all together abandon Netscape and move to IE. Sad but true, IE
gained 4% market share with Netscape's launch of NS6. Says allot.

As Robert pointed out this may change if Mozilla/Linux propagate. Also, AOL
is "pondering" offering "browser choice" (NS6 or IE6) to their users later
this year. Would do allot to shift the tide-pools of browser dominance.

Personally, I think it's going to take a solid 18 months for use of level 4
browsers to lower enough that "conservative clients" will embrace a DOM only
API.

Also, since these API's will both be unique and standalone there is no
reason they can't both co-exist.

My thoughts,

DS

I am quite sure that we are all *well* aware of your opinion 8an :P

What I asked though, was if there had been an actual decision made :)

Cheers

I think we should cut 4.0 dynlayer support into a separate file and load
only the right one and in about six months stop supporting it at all.
Bring On The ROCKS!!!
