true but pretty much anyone who has bought a computer magazine in the last few years will have a copy of the JRE on that. Most companies I know have most of the commonly used installation files stored somewhere on their network as well. Comparing a Flash plug-in (165Kb) DL to Java (6mb) is a bit of a stretch, but still off topic. The issue is the fact that MS and partners is going to spend $1 billion marketing a unified system that is incompatable with all legacy Java running on the web. Nasty... Initially Sun and MS agreed to integrate the older Java JVM (hence the 7 years, $20 million license) so as to not "rock the boat of the installed base" of the Internet. Anyway you shake this pepper shaker it's a blow to Sun/Java. FYI, I use and support Java 100% currently. I am in no way endorsing MS or the .Net, I have a disdain for MS. But Java will have to trench to the server unless some "killer app" makes a 6MB DL worth the trouble. Think about... your on a 56K modem and go to "x" site. Your routed to a "you need Java" page and told to go DL the 6mb plug-in (figure between 13-22 minutes depending on latency). What you going to do? Leave? Most likely. Trust me, this is a real slap against humanity by the company known for these bs games. Java will always work as a plugin. There is no difference between this and the method currently required to use JRE 1.2+ in IE / NS.
