As some now, I have developed my own highly optimized Api in the last
summer too (it will be opened too the public in the next week or so).

I haven't made much tests, but what makes Dynapi a bit sedate is its
architecture (precreate, excessive use of events...). 
The layer creation code itself isn't the problem.

Concerning speed differences, I think we talk of maybe up to 50% when
comparing the different apis (creation of layers), that aren't the
magnitudes which would legitimate a library rewrite ;-)
