I read the explanation on the sourceforge site here: https://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=6693&group_id=1
and am very surprised at arrogant tone they take, especially this: <quote> Other complaints based on arguments like "my list users don't want to/can't handle selecting reply to all when they want to reply to the list" or "not having a forced reply-to prevents communication and sharing" are just bogus. Users can learn, and users of Sourceforge are supposed to be more computer literate than average users, they can figure out if they want to reply to the list or to the original author only, and use the appropriate function in their mail client. "Two goals, two functions, two buttons" </quote> I am subscribed to three other lists, and all use "reply to list". They are basically encouraging people to break the basic rules of netiquette, for no other reason than to "provide an consistent behavior for all the lists on sourceforge ", and if we complain, our complaints are described as "just bogus" and we are depicted as being computer illiterate because we'd rather not have to edit out all superfluous email addresses by hand. It seems they want us to run Linux, and use Mutt email client - Christ! Another quote:(http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html) <quote> Coddling the Brain-Dead, Penalizing the Conscientious There are, unfortunately, poorly implemented mail programs that lack separate reply-to-author and reply-to-group functions. A user saddled with such a brain-dead mailer can benefit from Reply-To munging. It makes it easier for him or her to send responses directly to the list. </quote> So now they're calling me "brain-dead" because I use Outlook Express? So that's what it is - somebody's angry at Microsoft for some reason, and think if they configure sourceforge so it works really badly on MS products, people will change to their favorite email clients. I don't think so, they're painting themselves into a corner. Reminds me of client-side Java. Thanks a lot Sourceforge. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jordi Ministral" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, October 09, 2001 7:40 PM Subject: [Dynapi-Dev] reply-to issues > Better get used to it > _______________________________________________ Dynapi-Dev mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.mail-archive.com/dynapi-dev@lists.sourceforge.net/
