visible and the {} looks better

No. Not at all

My reason for the changing the methods was to make it
much easier to read and to represent the field with a
much nicer syntax.

IMO your suggestion:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED] text]}

looks much better than:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED](multi-line text)]


All agree to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] format or should we
stick to the old way?
