A couple of thoughts about database(s)
Have you thought much about how you want to provide lookups, that is,
what can be queried.
I was thinking about having the ability to say I want to have everything
that works in this group of browsers on this platform and I get back
everything that works or is grouped by compatibility level. If the
processor (cgi) is setup and documented a bit I can build a couple of forms
for lookup(s) of these types and either hand them back to you or set them up
on my own.
I would imagine that you will place static lookups in the individual
tiles to begin with. There are however a great many other semi-dynamic
querying abilities that a good database will lend itself to. The key is an
up to date database that is kept that way rather than a snapshot that will
become outdated. I'm sure that you understand this notion, and also most
others on this list. I'm just reinforceing the thought, as this is often
becomes the bottleneck for this type of application while attempting to
implement and the main reason some of them fall by the wayside. This is
also the reasoning behind my earlier post(s) about provisions for
owner/authors to update the work. If the interface makes things easy it
will be used. If not, well. . . .
Just some thoughts.
