A Very Cool Discussion!
I Disagree with Jordi when he says:

>>My point is that the DynAPI is huge in size and
>>resource usage because of the miracles it achieves with older browsers.
>>The functionality provided is great, but if you don't mind 4.x browsers,
>>the overhead is not worth it.

As we add RAM to PC's Mac's Linux Boxes whatever this is less and less a
problem. I am developing in DynAPI on a 166 Mhz (ok mmx) with 64 MB very
happily.
The benefits far outweigh the limitations to me.
And will only grow with time.
All that is needed is to integrate this DOM stuff with the standard DynAPI
API....And continue debugging and adding intelligent features....The API
shouldn't change just because you add a new platform, that's the whole point
of an API in the first place.
To me the DOM browsers are still vaporware, and they should be debugged (and
optimized!) from 2.5.7 as they are released.
The greatest benefit to using DynAPI to me is that what I write will live
forever rather than sitting at the bottom of a desk on a floppy or CD.
Whatever I do will be accessible to me in 10 years, so I write utility
programs using it, and maybe some interesting applications...
I'm an old C and assembly programmer and I wonder do I need to learn Java
(granted it's an easy language but so many api's) (or c# $$$) when PC's are
just getting faster and faster...Isn't ECMAScript just the best language on
the planet? So I use the Microsoft File System Object when I need to save
something to disk OK I'm cheating. (I should use Java right?).and
XML,....And I'd like to be writing Direct3D games in DynAPI/ECMAScript.
Todd.

Sure...a good example is the LoadPanel widget. A piece of code that should
be functionally identical accross platforms, but the implementation under
the hood is optimized for the target browser.

No arguments, DynAPI is _the_ crossbrowser DHTML API.

There are still some differences with DOM compatible
browsers that make have DynAPI worth while.

It's much easier to write apps/widgets that are
reusable with DynAPI than to use DOM!
