Hey all,

Over the past time I've had a few encounters with possibly illegal conduct
around domain names that were reserved with me, and which were invariably
paid with e-gold. This raises the issue of the possible anonymity of
digital gold accounts.

In my view, gold is like cash, albeit that it travels a little easier
over a distance than tangible cash. Cash may be anonymous, no problem.

But I've noticed that large sums of money are distributed in gold.
Not to me, domain names are cheap things, but a domain name can be used
to establish an online identity and start sucking the blood out of people
from there. Fraud and cash combine quite well. After being fraud-victim,
people start to investigate, using the whois database. That's how I sometimes
get involved.

As a Good Guy, I'd like a chance to show the world who I am, and make it
possible for them to verify my identity before they commence in a deal
with me. And a Bad Guy would not be able to provide this information, or
it would look bad.

So, it seems that there is a use for voluntarily provided information
about accounts. Possibly a PGP key, for which it can be looked up
who has signed for it, in search of a trustworthy individual. For the
large sums that are sometimes paid in gold, this would seem like a good
investigation to make beforehand.

I am currently working in that direction (setting up a signing authority)
and I am curious if there is an interest in this voluntary release of
information -- I know that I'd gladly share my identity with others, but
I would like to hear what others say.

Thanks,

Rick van Rein,
