The "babble" seems to be backed-up by some math in this case, JP. Property that can be duplicated anywhere isn't like other forms of property,
So what? Sure, there are multifarious, very different types of property, and ..
so the law tends to treat it differently.
the law about all of it is subtle and different. No mystery.
Well, you might want to check Professor Lessig's history of Mickey Mouse (sigh ..)
It's just so anecdotal - incidental (ie, about one incident). Say Walt Disney STOLE Mickey from someone else, hell, let's say we discovered thet Tom Clancy actually copied all his novels from an obscure writer in Tasmania. What if we discovered I have stolen the car I drive from Jim Davidson -- Prof. Lessig has absolute proof! Next, we learn that Lennon and McCartney did NOT write _Yesterday_ .. Ringo did, and they ripped it off from him.
So what?
What's the point of all this?
It's simply rhetoric as he has nothing much to say. Sorry I am giving it to you straight, but you know I'm always right :)
Something that can be duplicated hundreds of times this afternoon just isn't like an acre of land at the mouth of the Miami River,
Absolutely - something like an acre of land at the river, is worth maybe 10, 50 grand tops. Something like _yesterday_ or a Madonna album is worth tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.. You can't even compare the two.
Of course, almost all the value in the world, is in intellectual property, and then there's a few dollars in real estate, and a few pennies in like "cars" and "my laptop"
I could duplicate the e-gold web site hundreds of times this afternoon, couldn't I?
Perhaps I'll do it to make a point. I'm off to register some domains?
Oh, I'll leave a tip, too.
"Evolution in action," as I always say.
regarding the real-politik of your ideas about tipping, sure. Not relevant to the central debate on IP though.
