This doesn't sound quite right, and if it's following the driver then there 
might be a SW bug.

Can you send us the output of "ethtool -i <ethX>"? A full dmesg would be good, 
too, but attaching that to a bug on e1000.sourceforge.net would be the best 
since this list strips attachments.

On a EXL710QDA2G1P5 card, after upgrading the NVM to 6.01 and driver to
2.1.26 on kernel 4.10, we get "Rx/Tx is disabled on this device because an 
unsupported SFP+ module type was detected."

This is a unlocked card, and when reverting to the default kernel driver in 
4.10, or using the 2.0.30 driver, this problem goes away, but so does support 
for get_module_eeprom which was our reason for upgrading.

Is this an intentional change?
