I think there's a fix for this in the queue from RedHat. You can see it on the intel-wired-lan mailing list but I don' think it's been pulled into our tree yet.

I can then reconnect the device, insert the module, and it works fine. This is a 2015 Razer Blade Stealth running Debian Unstable, kernel 4.14.2.
