A 10Gb FAQ at the Intel site states:

"Can I connect two Intel 10 GbE Server Adapters back-to-back without a
switch?
Yes, you can connect two Intel 10 GbE Server Adapters together without a
switch. However, this type of unit-to-unit connection will yield very
limited performance. Maximum performance will only be achieved using
many clients."

I understand that this is due to TCP/IP latency considerations, but I am
wondering if anyone can give me a repesentative maximum throughput one
can expect in this scenario, using an MTU of 9000 and recent multicore
machines, where the workload is copying multi gigabyte files?

I am due to start tuning such a setup in the next few days and it would
be good to have something to aim for.

Regards,

Richard
