The Sourceforge/Intel download version is very close to what is in the upstream 
kernel today.  If you are using an older kernel the Sourceforge/Intel download 
driver then was very close to what was in the upstream kernel then.  The 
drivers are always improving and changing both for bug fixes and adding new HW 
support.  Using the latest driver is always a good idea if you run into a 
problem.
