Thanks. I see that someone else found a similar problem with the igb drivers 
back in March, but they decided to fix it by just shortening the udelay 
interval to 10000us instead: http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg233769.html

It looks like that change has already been submitted to the mainline kernel; 
I'm not sure which approach is best.
