I'd like to recommend the use of a bug tracking system. While a
mailing list/newsgroup is ideal for discussion of issues and workarounds,
it is awful for ensuring that all bug reports are assessed properly. I
do not know if Intellij uses a bug tracking system internally already; if
so, they should make it possible for users to submit bugs directly. If
not, they should seriously consider one. Some exist that are free and
easy to setup, such as Bugzilla.

Some of the benefits that would be gained:

    * Bug reports will not be lost in the traffic
    * Ability to categorize bugs by component, platform, etc.
    * Much easier to follow the lifetime of a bug (workarounds, builds
that are intended to fix it, etc.)
    * Much easier to group reports that are really describing the same
      bug
    * A bug tracking system can keep track of user votes regarding the
importance of fixing particular bugs (similar to how users typically
post "+1" or "-1" or "-10" in their messages to this list)

I post this partially out of frustration. I have posted three messages
describing in fairly good detail a report describing a bug that has
persisted through at least three builds, including a workaround and the
precise location in IntelliJ's code where the problem occurs (modulo
pointless identifier obfuscation), but I have received absolutely no
response. I have no way of knowing if it is being looked into, has been
deemed too unimportant, will be looked at later, or if it has been
completely overlooked. In all of these cases, having an actual bug tracking
system would keep me and every user and developer much better informed.

So is there any reason for no real bug tracking system? Bugzilla can be
setup in half an hour to an hour, depending upon one's experience and the
system one is installing it on.
