Brian,

It seems to be an extraordinary bad idea to compile 3000+ classes using
jikes because it produces corrupt class files with high probability
when the number of compiled files exceeds smth about 2000.

Of course this is no reason for reporting successful compilation
if jikes fails with an internal error since it does so quite often ;-)
