Just to add more data to my message:

I didn't edit the file in another XML editor; I have only opened it in IDEA.
I hadn't opened it in IDEA in a couple weeks. I haven't had any crashes
recently, and I didn't even change the external tools via the UI in the past
few days. I did change a bunch of live templates however.
