How about a 3rd option...a rebuttal?

But IntelliJ DOES need to know what people want...and what they DON'T
want is JUST as important. Should they implement every feature that
ONE person requests? No...not if everyone else doesn't want it. How
else will they know if we don't tell them?

But they (like everybody) have limited resources...for every hour
they spend on one feature...it's one hour less they have to spend
on other features...it's the basic law of limited resources...and we
all have to live with it. They need to know what features are most
important to the greatest number of users (assuming that increasing
market penetration is the goal).

What does this have to do with anything? I'm sure Intel will make a
faster processor next year...but that doesn't mean I'll have one...and
many of us do not have the authority to buy ourselves new hardware
whenever we want.

> Look at Together : it's big, it's fast, and it does code auditing. point

Huh? TogetherJ is the biggest dog I've ever run...do you have a new
top-secret 576 GHz Pentium XIV and you're not telling us?

I doubt bandwidth is the concern with most people...as a general rule,
BIG=SLOW...unless you have unlimited memory.

Yes! I really do think that! I use the search functions a several times
every hour. I've edited the configuration files once. No contest.

Now you DON'T want all these tools integrated? You're sounding like your
'type 1' category person?!? Which are you? Make up your mind.

But you just said that you wanted source control and unit testing run
separately -- not in IDEA?!? Which is it?

Besides, I thought you said Together was fast? Doesn't it lauch instantly?
Maybe you need a nice SMALL, FAST uml diagrammer... ;)

ROI = Return On Investment
If the editor tweaks helps me work faster...then I can develop the same
software at a lower cost. This increases ROI. Do the math! sheeesh...

But feature voting with a 'comments' field would accomplish the same thing.

In summary, I must say that I couldn't disagree more! IntelliJ obviously
wants our feedback...thus the creation of these forums. We each have
a duty to tell them what is important in our buying decisions.
