IDEA boxed is a marketing issue - but if they could really sell much more copies that way, why not? if they inlcude a printed manual it would be nice ;-)
regarding Eclipse: the concept is sure interesting, but currently Eclipse cannot compete in any way with IDEA, in my opinion - not as a Java Editor. Hundrets of little things add up to a highly optimized tool, and Intellij even adds "big things" like local VCS on the fly ;-) I think it was a great achievement to create such a product, and the task of creating an equally powerful tool (regarding features, integration & speed) based on a platform like Eclipse is just too hard too achieve. At least for now Eclipse has not proved the opposite. But of course, if someone brings up a C++ or Ruby plugin for Eclipse that is only half as powerful as IDEA for Java, I'll give it a try ;-) best regards, Michael ------------------------------ Well, this is an issue. E.g. at Deutsche Bank the managers would even agree to buy IDEA as is but IF IT WOULD BE BOXED. > > You're right, I think IDEA will be much more widely > used if they would do something to help us impress the > managers. > > Of course IDEA it's the best thing you can get, but > the managers would still prefer to pay for something > like Symantec or IBM or SUN... > > > > --- "P.
