Hello Tom,

That's an idea...
But I'd prefer to see the focused editor and the surrounding editors with
their full name... I gave me another idea:
What about be inspired but what Apple did with their OS X dock ?
Though I'm not really much familiar with OS X (coz I'm a win user), but
their idea of different icon size is quite interesting.
Here the principle would be different.
Let's keep the tabs. It's better looking than buttons. But the name of the
tabs would be as follows (in order to have a maximum of tabs visible):
If you have the required space, show the tabs as usual.
If space starts lacking on the single row, the names of the files opened
might shrink a bit. But the tabs which has focus, and the surrounding tabs
should have almost their full name written, and the more you get far from
the active editor, the name of the file is more and more shortened.
Let's see that with an example (I use the same name for each tab to
demonstrate the principle)

[ MyC... ][ MyCl... ][ MyCla... ][ MyClas... ][ MyFocusClass][
MyClas... ][ MyCla... ][ MyCl... ][ MyC... ]

Only the editor with focus has it's full name, but not the others.
And when you change with ALT-arrow, the length of the tabs change, with the
focused editor always having its full name written.
That's a bit like OS X's dock :o)
(It'd be better with a screenshot, I know)

Guillaume
