it happened again, here's what I found:

there's only one class in the editor window.
ctrl-click on the method brings up the correct class in the editor
window, but also another - unrelated - class, in my case: java.lang.String,
or, in another case IllegalStateException.

'unrelated' is relative: in the first case, the first argument
of the method is of type string, in the second case IllegalStateException
is thrown in the body of the method.
