We are running Tomcat under IDEA and it works pretty good and subjectively it looks just as fast.
My only complain is that IDEA does not kill the old instance when you run/debug a new one as jBuilder used to do, and this creates a port conflict. This means that you need to kill manually the old process when you want to rerun/debug your servlets. In some cases, IDEA requires up to 5 mouse clicks to do just that which I find to be very tedious.
