Exactly! It only highlists but not select.
It's even more annoying when you wanna replace it with something in
clipboard. It gets pasted after the highlighed text but I expect the pasted
phrase to over-write it.

Yes, the IDEA search does not select the text, just highlights it.
Sometimes
I hate this, but sometimes I find it useful: like when i want to delete
the whole
line the text is on, I do not want to have to deselect and then use Ctrl-X.

But I think maybe it should be optional (yes, IDEA is full of options).
If the searched item is a word, you can use ctrl-W to select it, but if
it is an arbitrary string, it's harder.
