Hi Edo.
 
I think it makes more sense to use a "stupid" editor that can handle big files, maybe with syntax hilighting thrown in, until you get the file into manageable enough chunks to make it even worth using IDEA.  I've found TextPad (www.textpad.com) to be pretty good with huge files - I've heard UltraEdit is as well but I haven't tried it.

I am editing a huge java file (600k) created using top-of-the-class copy and paste techniques.
 
IDEA's editor is almost unusable - it's busy all the time in parsing the structure I guess. I raised the autoparse delay to some 10000000 msec
but still common operation like inserting new lines etc takes too long.
 
it'd be nice if the intelligence of editor could be switched off temporarily for files that are too stupid for it to attempt to comprehend them.
