How 'bout auto update on your javadoc?! For example, if the parameter
name
is changed from "name" to "firstName", the javadoc should automatically
reflect that. If the parameter type is changed, or new parameter (or
exception) is added, the javadoc should automatically reflect that too!

I am not sure, but I think WebGain provides a feature similar to what's
described above. But WebGain has a lot of crap too...

Another thing it could have is highlight of erros in javadoc, such as
invalid links or @param with incorrect parameter names.

One could use Ant to drive auto-updates and such... I have seen it done
before. It's really cool!

Erik,

I just spent the weekend moving packages around in our
source tree, so I may be able to help. My process was
pretty manual, but it worked:

1. For each package, p4 edit all files to be moved.
2. (At a prompt) create the directory structure for
the new packages.
3. In IDEA, add the new directories to the Source
Path.
4. In IDEA, use Refactor-->Move on all the files.
5. In IDEA, remove the old directories from the
Source Path.
6. (Everything else is at a prompt) Make a tmp
subdirectory in the target directory.
7. Move all files in the target directory to the tmp
dir.
8. In the original directory, p4 revert the files.
(You'll probably just use p4 revert * since the files
won't be there anymore.)
9. In the original directory, p4 integrate the files
to the target directory (which is now empty).
10. In the original directory, p4 delete the files.
11. In the target directory, p4 edit the files
12. Move the files from the tmp directory back to the
target directory.

It looks hideous, but a few scripts can reduce the
tedium. And it's because of this that I'm VERY
enthusiastic to see how the IDEA guys expose the API
to allow source control plugins!

Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Has anyone figured out how to move or rename files in
IDEA that are under Perforce's control?

I can move them with the Perforce client, but then
IDEA won't update all the code that uses those classes
to reflect the new name/package. I can't use IDEA's
move or rename features because it tries to actually
move the files, which Perforce doesn't like.

Thanks,
Erik

Build 542, Win2k sp1, jdk 1.3.1

The Ant Build Messages pane only has tool tips available in the bottom
strip
of the window (where the memory usage indicator and line/column numbers
are)
for the "Show context help" and "Autoscroll to Source" buttons. Tips
for
the other 8 buttons don't appear.

I like the new features for Ariadna but I was really hoping for improved
javadoc handling. In particular, if IDEA could find a way to auto-wrap
the
text as I type and delete text just as a text processor does, that would
be
most excellent. I do that by hand right now as everyone else does. It
would also be nice if it could style HTML markup and javadoc markup in
the
javadoc differently.  Auto-completion of {@link #mymethod(String,int)}
would
be sweet too. A cool way you could do this would have a contextual-menu
on
a selected string that will
make it a @link, offering a pop-up if there are several methods that
match
that method name. It would also be nice if it would indicate a javadoc
error if I'm @linking to something IDEA can't find or if I'm using a
javadoc
tag that is not registered.

If the installer is done right, it will reduce installation time and
hassle,
and so would fit in with IDEA's design very well. Sure, we can use vi
and
javac to develop our code, but we use IDEA because it speeds up our
work.
Likewise, a good installer would make things faster and easier by doing
the
following:

- Notifying you of new versions
- Only downloading the differences between your version and the new
version
- Installing the new version but preserving the settings

The current installation method does not notify you of new versions, it
requires you to download the entire 6+ MB zip file, and it forces you to
manually copy your settings from your old installation directory to the
new
one.

Weird. Just to confirm, i'm *not* talking about the little yellow
pop-up
tool tip that appears next to the mouse pointer when you hover over a
button
for 2 seconds or so--those all appear for me. I'm talking about the
blue
text that appears (without delay) in the status bar down in the very
bottom
left of the IDEA window. You see tips in the status bar for all ten
buttons in the Ant Build Messages pane?

Subject: [Eap-list] Additional Ariadna feature request: $Prompt$
extensions
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Currently when an external tool is run, it's possible to specify
"$Prompt$"
anywhere in the program, parameters or working directory string, and
IDEA
will first prompt the user for an input value before starting the
external
tool. I have a few requests surrounding this.

1. I often have multiple pieces of input I would like to enter at the
prompt to be fed to specific commandline arguments of my external tool.
I
would like a way to be able to tell IDEA to prompt the user for multiple
pieces of input, perhaps with an optional description. For this I pose
a
small extension of the $Prompt$ macro. Here is an example:

      Program: c:\mytools\mytool.exe
      Parameters: -server $Prompt[Database Server]$ -database
$Prompt[Database Name]$ -username $Prompt[Username]$
      Working Dir: c:\mytools

I would then like IDEA to take this and present me with a simple input
dialog with 3 text labels and 3 text fields before I invoke my external
tool. Currently IDEA won't even deal with multiple $Prompt$ macros
within
any one field (Program, Parameters or Working Dir).

2. I would like to see macros available within Run/Debug
configurations.
Specifically I would like to be able to use $Prompt$ here as well. For
some motivation as to why I want to use prompts here, consider the
following. You have a testing framework that uses datafiles to specify
which test cases to run, and you are working on a project with over 1000
test cases. Because of this, your tests are logically broken up into
multiple datafiles with about 10-50 tests in each datafile. In order to
easily be able to invoke your test runner on a single (or maybe
multiple)
datafile(s), you need to have anywhere from 20-100 Run/Debug
configurations. If you could use $Prompt$ in the Run/Debug
configuration,
you could simplify this down to only one configuration.

3. Caching of values in a prompt dialog. If I'm using the same
external
tool over and over, it's likely that I'm going to be inputting the same
parameters over and over at the prompt dialog. Because of this, I would
like the values to be cached between prompt dialogs. That way when I am
presented with the prompt dialog the second time, it's already
pre-populated with the values I inputted the first time. If nothing has
changed, I can then just hit enter and move through the prompt dialog
pretty quickly.

Sound reasonable? Any thoughts/ideas/additions from the list?

Hi,

A couple of problems with Build #542:

1) There seemed to be no way to save a specific file by itself. I can
only
find "Save All" command, not "Save" command.
2) Every once in a while, I would lose my cursor (or caret) in the IDE.
IDEA still works fine, but the cursor has disappeared. Has anyone else
encounter similar problem?

Thanks,
Mike Liu
