AB, IDEA uses standard java.net.URL class for fetching external resources. As far as I know it doesn't work with proxies by default, but I do remember that there's some system property which may be specified in application run parameters make URL work with proxy (see http://www.jguru.com/faq/view.jsp?EID=9920 ).
