On the other hand, there's also us users who want to see IDEA be a great
tool that meets our needs. There's nothing more depressing that having my
standard xml editing break because of some pointless feature like xml
declarations, inline dtd support, schema support, blahblah. I realise it's
not feasible to have everything on a toggle, but I truly wish I could rip
out all the support for idiotic user requests out of idea.jar. New features
are all good and well, but when they impact those who do not use them, they
get a big fat thumbs down from me. Of course, the response will be 'but..if
you don't want it, don't use it!'...however, I have no CHOICE in the matter,
when I open up an xml file now, IDEA will execute pointless codepaths that I
do not need (checks for whether I'm in xml declaration, enable checks for
correct syntax there, check if I have an inline dtd, check if it's xml
schema, blahblah).

Note that I have no particular beef with xml, it's just an example. I
remember a while back an email (or maybe misremember) from one of the
intelliJ guys saying that the xml editing is not meant to be a full blown
xml studio, but a lightweight convenience thing. It feels anything but
lightweight right now, sadly.
