You didn't overlook it in the documentation, we don't have a good page
on available toolchains yet, but you are right that this would be very
useful. It's on my TODO list..
Are there any plans to remove the old toolchains or do you leave them as they
are?
We have plans to deprecate some old/inactive toolchains; the ones I have
in mind are 'goalf', 'ictce' and 'iqacml'.
We won't drop 'goolf' though, since it is still being used actively
(i.e., we're aware of people using it and we're getting pull requests
for easyconfigs using 'goolf').
Deprecating toolchains would boil down that we 'archive' the easyconfigs
using those toolchains (i.e. you have to try a little bit harder to make
'eb' find them as a part of the EasyBuild installation), and that they
are no longer included in the regression test.
But you would still be able to employ them, I don't think we will
enforce not using them since there's not much benefit beyond advising
not to use them anymore.
I haven't had a lot of time to dive into that yet though, but I hope to
get to it before the last release prior to EasyBuild v3.0 which should
materialize sometime after summer.
