assuming i want a local network with a PDC named 'BRAIN', i could create a DNS 
entry for 'LOCAL'
add under 'LOCAL' an entry for 'BRAIN' which uses my ebox IP

and it should allow me to connect to my ebox PDC using 'BRAIN.LOCAL'

would this be roughly a solution?

Turn on and configure the DNS service as from XP forward there is a
dependency on DNS and not so much netbios....
