Ignore previous email...reading through the archives I notice that you
have gotten the problem fixed in latest update and so I've updated the
system by manually entering some stuff into the /etc/network/interfaces
and doing a /etc/init.d/networking restart so that I could have a working
network and then apt-get upgrading to latest which fix everything and
restore the server to its former glory.

Here's looking forward to not having something like this happening again(!)
