Well, my little migration plan seems to be grinding to a halt. Problem: when importing settings from the old server, the new servers' IP is also replaced with the IP of the old server. This isn't applied directly, so the webinterface stays up and we don't have an IP conflict just yet. However, when I try to change the IP of the server using the web interface (replacing it with the IP of the new server), Ebox tells me that all data refering to the old IP in every module (which in my case is DHCP and probably also DNS) will be lost. I ignored that warning the first time and indeed... all the data I entered on the DHCP page is lost, making the entire restore operation useless!
I can't change /etc/networking/interfaces and /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf manually since Ebox will overwrite them each time I add or change something using the webinterface. Is there any way to fix this, except for letting the new server take the IP of the old server (which is not really an option in our case)? This could be tricky, since having two DHCP servers on one network can (will) cause problems. Too bad I only heard about the 1.0 release today. I planned to migrate the server this evening but I'll probably won't get my hands on 1.0 in time to finish the operation before midnight. Is there a changelog / new-feature-list available so I can check if the changes are worth waiting for? Or is it possible to upgrade 0.12 to 1.0 when it's released? I'm using the Ebox/Ubuntu live CD installations on both servers. The data I'm worried the most about is DNS and DHCP settings. User-specific data is not a real issue as we're not using Ebox as our main fileserver yet. We don't use Ebox' email either. Our entire network relies on the DNS and DHCP data (a lot of DHCP clients with a fixed IP) in Ebox so I can't afford to lose that. Should I be okay in this scenario? By the way, I just read on the Ebox site that 1.0 will be released today. Should I wait for that instead of migrating to 0.12 today? I need to free that machine for other uses, so I'm planning on migrating to a virtual server using the 0.12 release. My question is: Can I simply backup the settings from the current pre-0.12 setup and import those into the new virtual 0.12 server? Or will this cause any nasty side effects?
