I think this could do the trick:

Enable and configure the network module with  an IP within the same
network as your old machine. Save changes. Edit and modify
/etc/network/interfaces, e.g: add a comment, save the file. Now you
will be able to restore your backup and eBox shouldn't modify
/etc/network/interfaces without your permission.

If you want to actually modify /etc/network/interfaces, disabl and
enable the network module and save changes. You will be asked to go
ahead with the /etc/network/interfaces.
