Jon: If "user" disconnects for long enough to miss a few heartbeats (about a minute), the echoServer will notice, and will "free up" that username so it can be reused. But if "user" disconnects and reconnects immediately, it may end up as "user-1" the second time. I suppose the echoServer could send a small message to "user" if someone logs in requesting the same name and try to detect the socket error. But even then, the socket may not return an error immediately...
