The only technical specifications that I've managed to get from my ISP (Telia Sweden)
regarding
ADSL and my D-Link DSL-200 modem are:

* VPI 8
* VCI 35
* Encapsulation RFS-1483 Bridged LLC Encap [Sic! Yes they write RFS and not RFC]
* Modulation G.dmt

Also, my connection provides dynamic IP-adress.

I phoned my ISP and tried to get more information about whether they use PPPoE only,
or IPoATM
or what protocol they use, but could get no answer apart from an e-mail adress to
someone who
*may* be able to answer me. I've writtem to them and I'll see what I get back.

I've downloaded the eciadsl CVS tree this friday (8/11) and compiled and installed
all. I ran
probe_device which produced the following output:

your USB devices now:
1: USB UHCI Root Hub (0000:0000)
2:  USB-ADSL Modem / GlobeSpan Inc. (0915:8000)

probed USB device: USB-ADSL Modem
VID1=0547, PID1=2131
VID2=0915, PID2=8000

I then ran eciconf.sh and entered the values above.

Running startmodem with no changes to "/etc/ppp/peers/adsl" resulted in (lots of output
snipped):
  LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
  Connection terminated.

Running startmodem with the flag -mode LLC_SNAP_RFC1483 set resulted in (lots of output
snipped):
  LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
  Connection terminated.

Running startmodem with the flag -mode VCM_RFC2364 set resulted in (lots of output
snipped):
  LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
  Connection terminated.

Running startmodem with the flag -mode LLC_RFC2364 set resulted in (lots of output
snipped):
  loading firmware (2/5)..

  modem not found

My naive guess was that LLC_SNAP_RFC1483 would help me, but alas no. I just browsed
the intro to
RFC 1483 and it seems that RFC 1483 actuallly allows for two different protocol
schemes and it
seems what you have called LLC_SNAP_RFC1483 is not the same as what they call
"Encapsulation
RFS-1483 Bridged LLC Encap". But that's just me guessing!

The pppoe patch you mention, could that help me, or is that already included in what I
downloaded from CVS on friday (8/11)?

Thanks again for the help so far!

/Paul
