You could check the verbose checkbox on pppsetup.cgi page.
It should show lcp negociation and authentification.
If nothing more is displayed, I am afraid it may be a sync problem and you
should try with another synch .bin.
Since I have not yet managed a way to test many synch in a loop, it is
painfull to test.
You may try too to directly run from command line
/etc/rc.d/rc.eciadsl start
It will show you more details about the sync process.
You could play too with rc.eciadsl stop and rc.eciadsl cleanup wich will
fully reset usb and the modem.
