certainly, ecl I used is functional, e.g. it is able to build Maxima, as a part of Sage installation. But I guess it has nothing to do with Sage; to test this, I just grabbed the current CVS version of ECL, built it, and installed in /usr/local. Still, this ecl cannot build fricas. Here is what I do.
