This kind of major upgrades should be definitely done in branches until
tested and debugged. The trunk is a place that should *always* be
stable. Branches are for experimental and untested / debugged featured.
Please rollback your latest checkins related to jackrabbit and lucene
upgrade and create a branch for this.
