Ok, so as it stands Nuxeo doesn't support folders that only contain discussion forums, akin to say Alfresco.
I guess (and I haven't yet done any Nuxeo customization) that I can achieve my desire by creating a new Folder type that has a new 'view' (what ever that exactly means) to see the discussions that it contains.
