This sounds good because it sounds like it can use whatever commercial database my client happens to have as their company std. In the case of my current client this happens to be Sybase. So does nuxeo support sybase please? When I try out nuxeo at home I will probably use mySQL but it would be nice to know that it can work with sybase as well. What determines which databases it can work
with please?

This would depend on the ability of each sub-system. For example Compass uses Lucene and its JdbcDirectory which (similar to many others, like Hibernate) have the notion of dialects to support different SQL RDBMs. In the case of JdbcDirectory there are about 12 'supplied' dialects.

(Have a look at http://www.opensymphony.com/compass/versions/1.1/html/jdbcdirectory.html)
