Hello, Effectively, the document index corruption was a main issue in 5.1.x. Upgrading Nuxeo will fix the problem.
For upgrading from 5.1 to 5.4, there are some cases that must be addressed: - we no more use JCR but VCS - we recommend to use Tomcat distribution instead of JBoss - JBPM (workflow system) was upgraded with no backward compliance "out of the box". - configuration moved from deployed files to nuxeo.conf and template system - other details such as (https://jira.nuxeo.com/browse/NXP-4401) We make big efforts to maintain backward compatibility and provide smart upgrades, so it should not be very difficult. But you are going to upgrade from a very old version, make sure to backup your data and test the upgrade before applying on production.
