HEC Launches 200 Merit Scholarships for Ph.D. Studies
in Science & Technology
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched the
scheme of 200 Merit Scholarships for Ph.D. studies in
Science & Technology and applications have been
invited from interested candidates. These scholarships
have been restricted to the areas of engineering,
information technology/computer science, mathematics,
statistics, agriculture, veterinary sciences and earth
sciences.
This HEC scheme which has been approved by the
competent quarters aims at building a pool of
specialized scientists and highly skilled
professionals trained at Ph.D. level in areas of
national significance which would have impact on the
economy of the country. The qualified specialists,
through this scheme, would be readily available to any
challenging development project as well as application
of science and technology in environment etc. and be
contributing to accelerate the growth of the economy
of the country.
The major objective of the project is to exploit full
potentials of the various departments/ institutes of
universities and centres of excellence having
sufficient infrastructure for higher level teaching
and research in new & emerging scientific fields. The
scheme would augment Ph.D. programme in universities &
higher education institutions in Pakistan and will
also upgrade academic qualification of 200 fresh and
in-service young scientists for utilizing their talent
fully at universities, colleges, centres of excellence
and R&D bodies.
The criteria set for these scholarships by the HEC
includes that the candidates should have 1st Division
through out academic career, must be less than 40
years of age and maximum duration of the scholarships
would be 4 years. The selected candidates should
require to work under the supervisors approved by
Pakistan Council for Science & Technology and HEC. The
interested candidates have been asked to visit HEC
website: www.hec.gov.pk for further information in
this regard.
