hello paige- thanks for your thoughts...im not sure how you connect
"being saved" or being converted with what i was talking about concerning
spirituality..because "being saved" connotes some sort of christian
influence...im not sure what youre thinking when you conjure images of
being saved or converted..in a way i can interpret the idea of salvation
to fit with my spirituality..i think humanity is generally leading itself
down a slippery slope of destruction and salvation in the form of a new
spiritual relationship to the world around us is the only way i can
imagine turning it around.

maybe the reasons behind youre feeling uncomfortable with starhawk or
spiritual "thought" is something you should be condsidering. or maybe you
have, in which case id be interested in hearing them..

and yes, at my tender age i believe (for now) that spiritual "conversion"
(i still dont like that word) is necessary for societal conversion. i
think that we as a society dont feel pleasure in
non-consumptive activities because we have been so far removed from
our true selves and taught to be dependent on convenient and superficial
activities...and that we need to refuse our connections with parts of
ourselves, our environment and other human and non human animals...

> As an economist, I believe what drives us to behaviours which are
> ultimately environmentally destructive, is everybody trying to
> satisfy their wants/desires etc... which is what a market system
> encourages. Where we probably agree is that I do believe people

i dont think theres a thing wrong with everyone tryiong to satisfy their
wants and desires. the problem is that capitalism tells us that we want
things that we dont really need. if we were truly in touch with the world
around us we would not tolerate capitalism and we wouldnt want things
that were destructive to ourselves ot our environment.

id like to hear more about your ideas about satifying wants and desires..
