Kylie, Leanne:
(I'm following the thread of your last posts. I hope it's
        not "off-topic" for ECOFEM.)

Okay, now I know I'm patronizing too. Patronizing and sexist. But
here's a real situation: Like it or not, the powers that be made
me the Affirmative Action rep for the FDEP Division of Water
Facilities. Every few months I meet with the reps from the other
Divisions and Districts. (The agency has over 4000 employees.)
Some of those reps have reported hostile reactions from white males
in their Districts when they gave presentations on ideas being
considered to promote Affirmative Action in the agency.

You say women don't need any help, and that it's patronizing for
males to offer it. Now, Affirmative Action involves networking
with minority and women's groups to get resumes, etc., to recruit
more of them into the agency, and if two job applicants have equal
credentials and abilities Affirmative Action gives the job to the
minority or female candidate. If this isn't help, I don't know
what is. My questions to you are, should the category "women" be
dropped from Affirmative Action? And should I, in my capacity as
an AA rep, not help women get recruited and promoted because it
        would be "patronizing"?
                                                Al
