Of course, Irene, The stereotyping is a big problem. Not that it's all
undeserved. But what the stereotypers don't seem to be aware of is that
we feminists and ecofeminists are quite diverse have ourselves been
critical of many of the
same things they complain about. Howver, there is definitely a double
standard for ecofeminist work and for more "straight"work. Stereotypers
don't feel that they have to apply the same standards of reading and
referencing to ecofeminist work as to high status work,and they
feel entitled to generalise
on the basis of reading a few papers, or less, total hearsay. I think a
lot of it is just sexism.
But the quotes you have indicate to me that we are dealing with a bit of
good old Marxist reductionism --only class counts. And a very narrow and
inadequate conception of class too. ONLY IN AUSTRALIA... could one find
such a large number of people from the old left who haven't changed a bit
since 1917, and still defend the Bolsheviks. It must have something to do
with being so far away from everything.
