There are a few people out there who are fruititarians - that is, they eat
nothing that requires the killing of anything. I don't know a whole lot of
foods that they can eat (other than fruits - which if picked very carefully off
of the tree or vine doesn't kill anything, it's more like clipping one's
toenails or getting a hair cut), but I'm sure that there are books out there on
the subject.
I eat vegetables, grains, fruit, legumes and beans, and sometimes even dairy
products (oh no! I'm about to get blasted! She's torturing Elsie) I don't
feel guilty for eating veggies and other things I've participated in killing
because (and I'll state it again) I feel I can eat that which I can kill.
Perhaps I feel closer to pigs and cows and chickens than I do to carrots - and
I suppose biologically, I am closer to animals than I am to plants. But
anyway, this is a choice I've made in my own eating habits. I find it
interesting that people are so quick to try and "catch" us vegetarians at
breaking the rules, to try and make us feel guilty for killing carrots and
maybe eating an egg once a year or so. I don't feel that I have to justify my
eating habits to anybody. I think it's pointless to attack
individual people - or even a group of people (such as meat-eaters vs.
vegetarians) for what they eat. Wouldn't it be better to try and legislate the
meat industry so that the meat that is produced for this country is more
healthy? Wouldn't it be better to try and promote delicious and healthy eating
which doesn't include an abundance of meat? Attacking people merely gets them
angry and defensive (as I'm trying not to be by this conversation)
however, comments such as eating fetuses I find absolutely insulting and I
don't feel that anyone needs to respond to that.
Tj. who's also wearing leather shoes today . . . . oh no! The meat patrol is
going to get her!
