Although you mention in the subject slot of your post 'gender differences' the 
research you quote is actually about 'sex differences'.  You cant homogenise(only 
generalise) the categories 'men' and 'women', since neither is ,arguably, 
inherently anything. Also I'm sure many women don't see anything wrong with 
being assertive.  There is a difference between assertiveness and aggression. 
While I'm far from happy with the impersonal nature of net communication it does 
have one advantage.  Research from conservation analysis suggests that overall 
men are more likely to cut off women when in a one-one face-face communication. 
In other words deny the importance and relevance of what the other person says. At 
least that cant happen on the net .  Each person can post as much or as little as 
they want. Anyway lets hope these stereotypes of 'men' and 'women'  get more and 
more dated.
