I agree with Amy, and applaud her obvious strength of conviction.
May I suggest to anyone who's feeling a twinge of "maybe she is right", but
hasn't quite made that big step away from meat--If you operate better with
a bookfull of (very accessible) facts, check out Jeremy Rifkin's "Beyond
Beef". This book was the deciding factor in my own conversion-- as an
environmentalist who couldn't deal with the massive deforestation,
pollution, and waste of global resources involved in perpetuating the meat
market economy.(Not to mention health & humanitarian aspects).
While I'm joining the rant--I'd like to mention my own current
focus of fear and environmental loathing: HAARP! The U.S. military has
gone over the edge with this one. Has anyone else heard about this? So far,
it's been VERY under-reported considering the potential threat. I have done
some e-mail alerts in various places, but feel pretty helpless as an
activist in this case. Any suggestions?
