I think the best way to "recycle" is to never even buy the containers 
that cause such problems.  It is really easy, IF you live near a great 
co-op, to buy your stuff bulk.  Even if you don't live by a great co-op, 
you can at least try to purchase things in great quantities and together 
with friends. If something is important enough to a person, they tend to 
find a way to do it.
 
I  was suprised when I visited my friend in 
Denver and we filled up her garbage can in one day!! It takes my 
household of seven people a week to fill that same garbage can because we 
get our things bulk and reuse our containers and bags.  It may take a 
while to form the habits but it is worth it!  
        The root of the problem lies in our lack of forethought.
